Why SushiFries?

When I was going through chemotherapy for breast cancer, my taste buds were toast. My mouth felt like sandpaper and nothing tasted normal. It was so strange to smell something wonderful and then have it not taste good.

But I could taste SALT.

So on those evenings when I felt up to going out, sometimes Michael and I would go to the little place down the road called Batter'd & Fried. They are known for their fish and chips, but also happen to offer sushi. I liked sitting at the bar there, watching the bartender and the TV. I usually ordered sushi, because I knew I would be able to taste the soy sauce and it was a pretty healthy option. Then I would order a serving of french fries because that just sounded so salty and perfect. And they were.

Sushi and French Fries - SushiFries. An unusual combination, but one that worked for me when I was kind of at a loss - in so many ways.
